Colorado edges Iowa State, 77-75

The Colorado Buffaloes rallied just in time to gain a 77-75 victory over the Iowa State Cyclones.

Colorado was staring at a potential disaster, losing to the league’s worst team with an NCAA bid on the line.

As it stands, Colorado may still need to win their next game in the Big 12 tournament to reach the Big Dance.

Alec Burks practically willed his team to victory, scoring 29 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and dishing out six assists. (Read More…)

Colorado rallies, stuns Texas, 91-89

After falling behind by 15 points at halftime and even more in the second half, the Colorado Buffaloes rallied back for a stunning, 91-89 win over the Texas Longhorns.

Alec Burks scored 33 points, including 11 during the team’s 14-0 run in the second half to help them climb back into the game.

The head coach didn’t kick and scream at his guys at halftime, but the players later said that they felt a sense of urgency kick in during the second half.

He admitted that the Buffaloes don’t have better athletes or even players than Texas, but that they just battled them for 40 minutes. (Read More…)

Colorado falls to Nebraska, 45-17

The Colorado Buffaloes kept it close for the first quarter but were eventually blown out by the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 45-17.

Quarterback Cody Hawkins threw for 163 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in his father’s final game as head coach.

The defense gave up over 400 yards of total offense to the Cornhuskers, including two touchdown passes by their running back.

It has been a tradition for the two teams to meet the day after Thanksgiving, but it’s likely the final year of that ritual. (Read More…)

Colorado fires Hawkins

The Colorado Buffaloes have fired head coach Dan Hawkins, and for a lot of fans, it’s about time already.

Hawkins was on the hot seat for more than a year now, as his 3-9 finish in 2009 did not help matters.

When his team blew a 28-point lead last week in a loss to Kansas, it was the final straw for Hawkins.

Hawkins son, Cody, is the team’s quarterback, and the relation has caused some anst among fans. (Read More…)

Colorado no match for Oklahoma, 43-10

The Colorado Buffaloes didn’t put up too much resistance against the Oklahoma Sooners in a 43-10 loss.

The Buffaloes surrendered nearly 500 yards of passing and more than 100 yards on the ground in an embarrasing defensive effort.

Their offense amassed just 263 total yards, less than half of what the Sooners rolled up on them.

Quarterback Cody Hawkins was just 17 for 44, a completion percentage that is going to result in a lot of punts. (Read More…)

Colorado leaving Big 12 next year

The Colorado Buffaloes will forfeit over $6 million to leave the Big 12 for the Pac-10 at the end of the athletic year.

As of July, 2011, Colorado will become a part of the Pac-10, leaving the Big 12 with just 10 teams.

The decision was somewhat forced on the Buffaloes by Nebraska, which had already planned a jump to the Big 10 next year.

Without Nebraska in next year’s Big 12, the conference would have been playing with 11 teams. (Read More…)

Colorado bolts for Pac-10

The Colorado Buffaloes saw the writing on the wall and have bolted to the Pac-10 conference.

The Pac-10 was considering both Baylor and Colorado but preferred the Buffaloes because of the Denver market.

It’s a good move for Colorado given that it looks more and more likely that the Big 12 will dissolve.

It also gives Colorado the best conference to join geographically since it is not all that far from the West Coast.

Colorado had struggled in recent seasons in both basketball and football in the Big 12, so the move could also serve to improve their performances.
